What is Mandala?
Description of Mandala
Mandala art is a geometric design that holds a great deal of symbolism in Hindu and Buddhist cultures. Mandala art is a Sanskrit language word for “magic circle”. Essentially, mandalas are dots contained within a square or circle and arranged into sections that are all organized around a single, central point.
These dots are created with special Mandala dotting tools using acrylic colors on wood, paper etc. Various design templates can also be used to create Mandala art with ease.
Mandalas are typically created using acrylic colors on wood, cloth or paper.
Significance of Mandala in India and Buddhist Culture
Mandalas hold symbolic and meditative meaning beyond their vibrant appearance in Indian and Buddhist cultures and tradition. Mandala is often used in Buddhist temples and monasteries in India, China and Tibet.
Mandalas are believed to have a meditative significance and hence put in temples and also sometimes at homes for decoration.
Mandala Art and Introduction
People believed that Mandalas represent different aspects of the universe and are used as instruments of meditation and symbols of prayer most noticeably in China, Japan, and Tibet.
Mandala art is something that’s very close to my heart ever since I saw it in a Buddhist temple in Tibet. This attracted me and generated interest to learn this magical art form.
I started learning this art from my teacher in India in 2017 and have been conducting workshops to spread this art in India and Singapore. Very excited to conduct this workshop now in Japan.
